Quinbrook Infrastructure Partners (‘Quinbrook’) is a specialist investment manager focused exclusively on lower carbon and renewable energy infrastructure investment and operational asset management in the US, UK and Australia. Quinbrook is led and managed by a senior team of power industry professionals who have collectively invested over US$ 17 billion in energy infrastructure assets since the early 1990's, representing over 30GW of power supply capacity. Quinbrook's founders have been investing in renewable energy infrastructure since the late 1990's.

 

Quinbrook's investment and asset management team has offices in Houston, London, Jersey, and the Gold Coast of Australia.

 

Quinbrook manages funds on behalf of a range of institutional investors. Quinbrook managed funds have made investments in a diverse array of portfolio companies and projects spanning both utility and distributed scale wind power, solar PV, battery storage, 'embedded networks', grid supporting flexible power solutions, 'Virtual Power Plant' portfolios and related ‘smart grid’ projects in the US, UK and Australia.

Rory Quinlan

As CFO, Mr. Quinlan was responsible for all investment, financing and regulated activities including capital raisings (equity and debt markets), investment origination, negotiation and investment completion

Rob Kerr

Chief Operating Officer

  • Chief Operating Officer for the US business at Quinbrook with 32 years’ experience in the property, sustainability and renewable energy markets across investment, development and funds management in Australian and international markets.

  • Joined the Grosvenor Group in 1994, one of the world’s largest privately held property companies with exposure to major international markets in the United Kingdom, Europe, Asia, America and Australia. Appointed Chief Executive Officer for Grosvenor Australia in 2000. Member of the Grosvenor Group Holdings Board and the Group Executive Leadership team. Appointed to the ISPT Grosvenor International Property Trust Board in 2004 as Director.

  • Built a team at Grosvenor Australia in investment and development capabilities and achieved the ranking of No.1 outperformer of the industry index for 17 years – 1994-2012. Established Grosvenor as a leader in property sustainability in Australia

  • Holds a Masters of Business Administration from the Queensland University of Technology, a Graduate Certificate in Project Development, Investment and Portfolio Analysis, is a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, a Fellow of the Australian Property Institute and is a Graduate Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Hank Jones

Managing Director

Hank is an energy industry veteran, with over 33 years’ experience in building and managing wholesale energy trading, power marketing, asset optimization and logistics businesses for public and private companies in both North America and Europe. Hank joins Quinbrook from Dynegy Inc., where he was Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer. At Dynegy, Hank was responsible for the commercial optimization of 26 GW of power generation assets diversified across multiple U.S.  states. He managed all wholesale market-facing activities including energy hedging, fuel procurement and logistics, asset management and capacity sales negotiations and oversaw the fundamental market analysis team. Under Hank’s leadership, that team developed and implemented power hedge strategies to mitigate commodity risk and basis exposure in multiple US power markets and led commercial due diligence efforts for the acquisition of operational energy infrastructure assets. Prior to Dynegy, Hank was Head of North American Power & Gas Sales, Trading and Origination at Deutsche Bank, managing natural gas, liquids and electricity trading, sales and origination. Hank was previously Director of Renewable Fuels Trading and Head of Electricity Trading at EDF Trading in London and later became Chief Operating Officer and Head of Trading for EDF Trading North America. He has held various leadership positions in energy businesses in the US and Europe including Co-Founder of Renewable Fuel Supply Limited, Managing Director of AEP Energy Services Ltd., President of Duke Energy Resource Management Company and Vice President of Risk Management and Energy Trading at NGC Corporation. Hank holds a B.S. in Marketing and a M.B.A. from Oklahoma State University.

Karl Olsoni

Operating Partner

  • Operating Partner with over 31 years of international energy sector experience

  • Alongside Quinbrook, Mr. Olsoni is a Partner at K Road, which is a management platform that successfully exited a battery storage investment company to Engie and is currently invested in Verto, LLC, a waste transformation and wood pellet management platform.

  • Mr. Olsoni served as Managing Director in the Energy and Infrastructure team at Capital Dynamics alongside Messrs Scaysbrook and Quinlan

  • Formerly Chief Financial Officer and Senior Vice President of PPM Energy Inc. (“PPM Energy,” now Iberdrola Renewables), a US based energy company that grew to become the second largest wind energy company in the U.S., third largest independent gas storage company, managed gas fired generation, and had a substantial energy trading business

  • Mr Olsoni was at Koch Industries, Inc., where he served as CFO of the business that marketed heavy petroleum products in the U.S., China, Mexico, Brazil and a logistics operation in Singapore

  • Spent 16 years with the Southern Company, having significant senior experience on both the regulated and unregulated sides of the business. While with the Southern Company, Mr. Olsoni was part of the original management team that helped to build Southern Company’s independent power and merchant energy business (Southern Energy, Inc., (later Mirant, Inc.)) into one of the largest independent power producers in the world

  • Holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from George Washington University and an MBA from the College of William and Mary

Mark Fulton

Chairman, Advisory Board

  • Chairman of the Quinbrook Advisory Board with 40 years’ of experience in financial markets spanning three continents in London, New York and Sydney

  • Mr. Fulton brings unique qualifications that provide a practical finance perspective to new emerging trends arising from sustainability issues

  • A recognized economist and market strategist at leading financial institutions including Citigroup, Salomon Bros and County NatWest

  • Asset allocation and quantitative investment techniques have been a key focus for Mr. Fulton as he engaged with numerous asset owners and managers and consultants about investment theory and practice, including heading global strategic planning for Deutsche Asset Management in New York

  • Mr. Fulton’s interest in the environment and sustainability, starting with a report on climate change and markets in 1991, led him to become Head of Research at DB Climate Change Advisors at Deutsche Bank from 2007 to 2012. At Deutsche, Mr. Fulton produced thought leadership papers for investors on climate, cleaner energy and sustainability topics and advised investment teams in asset management.

  • He has acted as an advisor to the Carbon Tracker Initiative, the Carbon Disclosure Project, the Climate Bond Initiative, 2 Degree Investing, Special Advisor to IGCC, and is a Senior Fellow at CERES

  • Holds a Bachelors’ degree in Philosophy and Economics with Honours from Oxford University

Brian Restall

Senior Director

  • Senior Director with over 22 years’ experience in energy-related infrastructure.

  • Mr. Restall leads Quinbrook’s strategic focus on energy storage investment and also leads origination efforts in Australia. Served as the CEO of Cape Byron Power 2013-2016.

  • Senior Business Development Manager at EnergyAustralia between 2010 and 2013 with responsibilities including corporate strategy, thermal power development, renewable development and operational efficiency

  • Business Development Manager at Drax Group plc between 2007 and 2009, where he was a senior member of the team that developed, constructed and operated the world’s largest baseload power plant

  • Construction Project Manager at Shell between 2005 and 2007. Based in Nigeria, Mr. Restall was responsible for the successful delivery of the US$ 600 million Afam VI Power Project, which focused on reducing gas flaring from the company’s Niger Delta oil operations

  • Holds a B.A. in Engineering with Honours from Queensland University of Technology

Keith Gains

Senior Director

  • Senior Director with over 17 years’ experience across investment and asset management in the clean energy sector

  • Director, and previously Vice President, for the CEI team at Capital Dynamics Group since its inception in 2010 until leaving in 2017. He sat on a number of Boards and was responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and executing transactions across a wide range of technologies totalling in excess of US$ 400 million

  • Responsible for arranging the refinancing of a portfolio of wind assets with a long term project finance facility for US$100m

  • Prior to joining Capital Dynamics he spent seven years at Novera Energy PLC working alongside David Scaysbrook and Rory Quinlan through the key growth phase of Novera until its acquisition by Infinis in 2010

  • Holds a BA (Hons) Accounting from the University of Wales

Matthew Nicklos

Senior Director

  • Senior Director with over 20 years’ experience in various roles in the energy sector including investment management, project finance and investment banking

  • Senior Vice President, Project Acquisition and Finance for Quantum Utility Generation from 2014 to 2018 where he managed the execution of M&A processes and led project financings in the power generation sector

  • Director of Project Finance for RBC Capital Markets from 2010-2014 where he structured and executed over $6.8 billion in project financings. He led all phases of the financing process including business origination, transaction structuring, due diligence etc.

  • Vice President for Marathon Capital LLC where he provided advisory services to companies in the renewable energy sector

  • Vice President in the Project Finance group for Barclays Capital Inc. (Formerly with Lehman Brothers) from 2002 to 2009 where he structured and executed over $7 billion in project finance transactions in the power and energy sectors. 

  • Holds a Master of Business Administration from New York University and a Bachelor of Arts, Business Administration, from Franklin and Marshall College

Anne Foster

Director

  • Director with over 15 years’ experience across investment, financial advisory, asset management and investment banking focused on infrastructure and global energy

Rachel Louie

Vice President

  • Vice President with over 11 years’ experience in clean and conventional energy projects and investments. Ms. Louie is responsible for financial analysis of new investments and ongoing asset management responsibilities

  • Associate in the CEI division at Capital Dynamics between 2012 and 2015, where she was integrally involved in the Cape Byron Power investment

  • Process Engineer at WorleyParsons, a global provider of technical, project and operational support services in the energy and infrastructure sector, between 2008 and 2012

William Blake

Vice President

William has over 5 years’ experience in renewable and conventional energy investment, project development and M&A.  William joins Quinbrook from Denham Capital in London, where he was responsible for financial modelling, execution and monitoring of Denham Capital’s international power investments. Prior to Denham, William was an Analyst in the Global Energy & Power Investment Banking Group at Bank of America Merrill Lynch in New York. William received his Bachelor of Science in Finance and Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire.

Rosalind Smith-Maxwell

Vice President

  • Vice President with over 7 years’ experience in renewable energy and clean technology.  She has successfully advised on more than 4GW of renewable energy power projects including onshore wind, solar and biomass technologies.  Her clean technology expertise includes behind the meter storage and battery manufacture technologies

  • Rosalind was a Vice President at Fieldstone Private Capital Group between 2015 and 2020, where she focussed on transactions located in Europe and Africa.  Prior to joining Fieldstone she was at Climate Change Capital for seven and a half years

  • She holds a BSc in Genetics from the University of Edinburgh, and was called to the Bar in 2009, after being awarded the Jules Thorn scholarship by Middle Temple

Dennis Mou

Associate

Dennis joins Quinbrook from EDP Renewables in Houston where he has spent the past two years undertaking the financial analysis and evaluation of EDP’s US wind projects. He specializes in financial modelling and risk/return sensitivity assessment and critical evaluation of a variety of complex tax equity structures, partnership arrangements, commercial due diligence. Dennis has developed and enhanced training protocols for detailed financial analysis and prior to EDP, he collaborated with the Rice University, Houston to develop online courses on business statistics and analytics.  Dennis holds a Bachelor of Science with Distinction in Physics from Yale University and an MBA from Rice University, Jones Graduate School of Business.

Edward Cliffe

Analyst

  • Analyst with 2 years’ experience in renewable energy development. Mr Cliffe is responsible for financial modelling at the fund level

  • Analyst in the Commercial Team at RES Group between 2017 and 2019, where he was involved in the development and sale of onshore wind and battery storage projects

Lisa Engelen
