Fugitive Methane Recovery portfolio by Velox Power

Red Rose Fugitive Methane Recovery

Yorkshire, England

Year Acquired
2020

The Red Rose Fugitive Methane Recovery portfolio is a collection of 3 sites in England providing clean baseload generation to the grid. It was acquired as an operational asset in September 2020.

The Red Rose Fugitive Methane Recovery portfolio provides the UK with clean ‘base load’ generation that is eligible for fixed index-linked Capacity Market revenues supported by National Grid. The portfolio is classified as clean energy and is environmentally beneficial due to the destruction of fugitive methane that would otherwise escape to the atmosphere. Methane has a global warming potential of 25 CO2e and therefore is much more harmful to the environment than carbon dioxide. Methane across the 3 sites is captured and converted into a less potent gas of mainly carbon dioxide in a process which produces energy for the grid.
