Creating the largest single-phase Solar + Storage project in US history
Sometimes a project comes along that changes the course of an industry forever. Gemini is an innovative project that is redefining clean energy reliability and creating a future that we can all believe in.
Project History
Gemini Solar + Storage, at the time of signing its Power Purchase Agreement, was the United States’ largest single-phase solar PV and battery storage project announced to date. The project is designed to produce low-cost renewable power for Nevada and generates enough reliable clean energy to power approximately 10% of Nevada’s peak power demand. All of Gemini’s output is covered by a Power Purchase Agreement with NV Energy, a subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway.
Gemini Solar + Storage features a 690 MW solar array and a 380 MW 4-hour battery system capable of storing more than 1,400 megawatt hours of solar power. Gemini is located on federal land approximately 25 miles (40 kilometres) north of Las Vegas and commenced operations in early 2024.

Gemini achieves commercial operations
Gemini represents a bold leap in clean energy infrastructure. Designed as a co-located solar PV and battery energy storage facility, the project spans thousands of acres in Nevada’s Clark County and sets a new benchmark for scale, efficiency, and environmental impact. At full capacity, Gemini generates enough electricity to power approximately 10% of Nevada’s peak power demand, while avoiding over 1.5 million metric tonnes of CO₂ emissions each year. Its integrated DC-coupled battery system enables flexible, on-demand clean energy delivery, supporting reliability for NV Energy and resilience for Nevada’s power grid.

We didn’t realise at the time that we were negotiating the biggest solar project in US history! Gemini is an impressive project from any perspective and sets new benchmarks for both sustainable renewables development and meaningful ESG impact across job creation, environmental stewardship, emissions, and local community engagement. Gemini showcases the many benefits of pairing large scale solar power with storage.

Gemini stories

Breaking records, building the future
Gemini was the largest single-phase solar-plus-storage project ever built in the US, delivering approximately 1 gigawatt of combined solar power and battery capacity to supply approximately 10% of Nevada’s peak power demand with resilient, clean energy.

Impact
We prioritise working with a diverse set of partners who are experts in their fields, leaders in the community, and are vital to the long-term success of Gemini.

Designed for the desert
Built with the land in mind, Gemini’s layout minimises grading, follows natural contours, and preserves native vegetation – setting a new standard for environmentally responsible development on public land in the American West.

Innovation beneath the surface
Gemini’s advanced DC-coupled battery system allows direct storage of solar energy with fewer conversion losses – unlocking greater efficiency, flexible grid dispatch, and reliable power long after the sun goes down.
Team
Gemini was developed by Quinbrook in conjunction with its portfolio company Primergy, a US- based solar and battery storage developer. The project reflects a coordinated effort between developers, investors, utilities, EPC firms, local stakeholders, and government agencies. Quinbrook’s leadership in ESG and sustainable infrastructure was critical to executing a project of this scale. Gemini’s delivery reflects the capabilities of an experienced, cross-disciplinary team committed to long-term energy transformation.
Conclusion
Gemini is among the largest co-located solar plus battery energy storage projects operating in the US, providing a consistent, dispatchable energy resource specifically designed to support Nevada’s peak energy demands, increasing grid reliability and resiliency. The size, scale, and integration of battery storage make Gemini one of the most sophisticated clean energy projects ever developed. The USD 1.2 billion mega-project was recognised as Renewable Energy Deal of the Year and North America’s Energy Deal of the Year by IJGlobal and Infrastructure Investor, respectively.
