Australia's landmark digital & energy infrastructure project

Supernode is a $3 billion (AUD), next-generation integrated campus combining hyperscale data centres and large-scale battery storage, strategically located at the central node of Queensland’s transmission network on Australia’s east coast.

Project History

Supernode is a pioneering infrastructure initiative by Quinbrook that brings together the future of data and energy. Located in Brendale, Queensland, Supernode leverages its proximity to the South Pine switchyard, the central hub of the state’s electricity transmission system, to create a first-of-its-kind development. The project comprises multiple stages across large-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and hyperscale data centre halls. The site’s strategic advantages, including flood-resilient elevation, robust transmission access, and dark fibre connectivity, make Supernode a critical enabler for both Australia’s energy transition and digital economy.

Supernode is a cornerstone of Quinbrook’s Australian energy and infrastructure portfolio, anchoring a new generation of renewable-powered, latency-optimised digital hubs. With over $3 billion (AUD) expected to be invested, the project will redefine how energy and data interact at scale. Its unmatched location at the South Pine switchyard enables efficient market access, grid stability, and unique cost advantages for major digital and energy users.

Team

The Supernode project is delivered by an experienced team of infrastructure investors, energy market experts, and digital infrastructure specialists. Drawing from Quinbrook’s global platform and deep local partnerships, the team is committed to building high-integrity infrastructure that supports Queensland’s economic and energy transition goals.

Conclusion

Supernode is redefining the convergence of digital and energy infrastructure in Australia. Its Brendale location is no accident; it’s a strategic choice that maximises both power delivery and data connectivity. With its proximity to South Pine switchyard, Supernode is engineered for performance and reliability.

In a world where both grid stability and digital speed are paramount, Supernode offers a rare combination: large-scale battery storage for balancing renewables and safeguarding the grid, and hyperscale data centres ready to host AI workloads, cloud services, and enterprise operations.

With Origin Energy secured as offtake partner for Stages 1 and 2, and Stanwell Corporation for Stage 3 of the BESS project for a total installed capacity of 780 MW and 3,073 MWh, Quinbrook has laid the groundwork for long-term energy contracts and resilient revenue models. As stages 4 and 5 unfold, Supernode will evolve into a flagship hub for Australia’s clean energy and digital transformation.
