Flexitricity is a next-generation flexible energy platform, utilising AI to optimise and dispatch a portfolio of energy storage, flexible generation and load.
Acquired by Quinbrook in 2017, Flexitricity aggregates and optimises over 1 GW of distributed flexible energy assets across Great Britain, including battery storage, industrial loads, and flexible generation. From its 24/7 control room in Edinburgh, Flexitricity uses AI-powered optimisation and real-time trading to manage customer assets across the UK power markets, including the National Energy System Operator’s (NESO) Balancing Mechanism.
Flexitricity provides tangible cost savings to customers while enabling deeper renewable energy integration and greater system resilience. In addition to third-party asset optimisation, Flexitricity also owns and operates more than 300 MW of flexible generation assets across the UK. Flexitricity plays a critical role in delivering the UK’s energy transition by enhancing grid stability.
Flexible generation
In addition to managing a fleet of customer assets, Flexitricity has an owned portfolio of grid supporting generation assets addressing power system security issues arising from the growth of intermittent renewables capacity in the UK power system. Flexitricity constructs, owns and operates a > 300MW portfolio of projects located across the United Kingdom.
Flexible demand
Flexitricity has been an innovative market participant for over 15 years, addressing customer demand management as decarbonisation accelerates, creating real cost savings for energy consumers whilst also enhancing grid support during periods of system stress and higher power prices.
Optimisation and trading
From its 24/7 control room in Edinburgh, Flexitricity offers an optimisation service and access to the wholesale power markets in the UK and National Energy System Operator’s (NESO) Balancing Mechanism – one of the most important tools which NESO uses to balance electricity supply and demand in real-time. Assets are continuously monitored and optimised, enabling real-time adjustments that enhance performance and capture new opportunities as they arise.
Flexitricity’s mission
Flexitricity’s ambition is to continue collaborating with regulators, system operators, and industry bodies to drive meaningful change in the energy transition, while delivering pioneering opportunities its customers.
