A 230 MW battery storage project in South Wales developed in partnership E.ON.

The Uskmouth Power Project is a major clean energy redevelopment transforming a former coal-fired power station into a hub for grid-scale battery storage. Located in Newport, South Wales, Uskmouth will host one of the UK’s largest battery systems at 230 MW / 460 MWh, invested in partnership with E.ON, alongside a flexible open-cycle gas turbine to support peak demand and grid stability. Quinbrook acquired the exclusive development rights in June 2022 and has since achieved all major project milestones including planning approvals, grid import agreements, design, and procurement. Construction began in November 2023, with operations expected in 2025. The project plays a critical role in advancing the UK’s energy transition by providing dispatchable, fast-response capacity to support increasing renewable generation. Uskmouth reflects Quinbrook’s strategy of repurposing legacy energy infrastructure into assets that underpin a resilient, net-zero power system.
