The “Severn” Portfolio consists of two synchronous condenser assets.
The Sellindge project, located in Ashford, England, will provide 1,402 MVA of short circuit level (SCL) once operational. The Cilfynydd project, located north of Cardiff, will provide 1,129 MVA of SCL once operational. Both projects secured 10-year inflation-linked contracts as part of National Grid’s latest stability tender, Pathfinder Phase III.
The projects have now commenced construction. Combined, the two projects represent:
- 8,325 MVAs of contracted inertia
- 600 local jobs supported during construction
Target outcomes
-
Support the UK’s transition to a decarbonised electricity system by enabling more renewables to come online whilst maintaining grid stability and preventing blackouts
